  1. Examine, diagnose, and treat patients with a multitude of diseases, disorders and injuries.

  3. Talk to patients to learn more about their history so that they can build a file regarding their case history to help determine previous illness, complaints and points to investigate further.
  4. Look at a patient’s shoes to determine whether or not they fit properly, and advise them on the proper fit of a shoe.
  5. Physically examine the patient’s feet and ankle tissue, bones, and muscles.
  6. Arrange for follow up and lab testing based off of any findings that were made in the office.
  7. Gives referrals with other specialists for further diagnosis or treatment of an existing or preexisting condition that is not in the podiatrist’s scope. 
  8. Treats lesions, infections and diseases effecting the feet and the ankles.
  9. Preforms surgical procedures on patients that have a need for feet and ankle surgery. If a surgeon is not available, then a referral is given to the patient so that all proper surgical procedures can be carried out in a timely manner.
  10. Prescribes and supervises creation of orthotic foot devices.
  11. Fabricates individual footwear to meet patient’s needs.
  12. Puts orthotic or appliance and footwear on the patient properly and then teaches them how to do the same on their own.
  13. Consults with surgeons to establish a proper treatment plan for each individual patient.
  14. Reviews patient’s progress and records medical history as it arises.
  15. Advises over the counter options for each patient on a case by case basis.
