Common Wardrobe Trends Prove to be Health Hazards

High Heel Foot ProblemsMany people are willing to sacrifice comfort for the sake of fashion. But is looking good worth the potential penalties to your health? Rheumatologist Dr. Sukanya Pachaidee, who has seen many patients suffer from fashionable trends, reports that “they may have shoulder problems from carrying a large or heavy handbag, or ankle tendinitis from pressure caused by too-high heels.”

Pachaidee also mentioned that wearing shoes that are too tight or pointy risks early osteoarthritis, bunions, and fungal infections.

When working or engaged in daily activity, it is important to select proper shoes. If you are experiencing any pain or injuries, consulting a podiatrist like Dr. Mayer Salama of Salama Foot Care is highly recommended.  Dr. Salama can treat your injury and provide you with the knowledge you need to keep your feet healthy at work.

Working on Your Feet

Standing on your feet for long periods of time can cause stress and pain in your feet. Your whole body may experience change in terms of posture, back pain, bunions, callouses and or plantar warts. There are ways to avoid these conditions by:

Positive Changes

Negative heeled shoe – choosing this shoe places the heel slightly lower than the ball of the foot.

Go barefoot – our feet were not designed to be enclosed for hours, or all day. Try allowing yourself to expose your feet to air.

Eliminate Pain

Foot Exercises – performing simple exercises, incorporating yoga and stretches is beneficial. This will allow increased blood flow to the area and muscles of the foot.

Achilles tendon – stretching the foot out flat on the floor, will relax the calf muscles and tendon. These exercises can be performed almost anywhere.
