Chocolate fans may find yet another reason to love the sweet goodness that it often brings. A studyconducted by scientists at Sapienza University found that the polyphenols found in dark chocolate canincrease blood flow. This is especially good news to patients who suffer from peripheral artery disease (PAD).
During the study, the researchers provided half of their study participants 1.5 ounces of dark chocolate and the other half 1.5 ounces of milk chocolate. The scientists observed the effects as patients walked on treadmills for a period of time. The results showed that the group that had been given the dark chocolate was able to walk 11% farther, demonstrating improved circulation in their extremities.
