Trail Blazers Rookie CJ McCollum to Undergo Procedure on Broken Foot

NBA rookie CJ McCollum of the Trail Blazers will be undergoing an ultrasound procedure after fracturing his left foot. McCollum underwent surgery to have a screw inserted into the same foot he injured before. The procedure McCollum will receive was described as “non-operational” despite the fact that the Blazers announced McCollum would require surgery.

However, McCollum plans to speak to several doctors before taking action. There is no current timetable as to when McCollum will recover or whether he will even rejoin the Blazers. Coach Terry Stotts said, “I would like him with the team when it’s OK for him to be with the team. Obviously, we’ll see how everything goes, but I think it’s important he remain part of the team, and going on the road will be part of that.”

Dealing with a broken foot can be a painful ordeal. However, an injury like this can be managed and taken care of by a podiatrist like Dr. Mayer Salama of Michigan. Dr. Salama can examine your broken foot, determine the severity of your injury, and work with you to provide the appropriate treatment options.

Broken Foot Causes, Symptoms, and Treatment

A broken foot is caused by one of the bones in the foot ‘breaking’, or fracturing. Bones typically break when the bone is bended, crushed, or stretched beyond its natural capabilities. Usually the location of the fracture indicates how the break occurred, whether it was through an object, fall, or any other type of injury.

Common Symptoms of Broken Feet:

  • Bruising
  • Pain
  • Redness
  • Swelling
  • Blue (foot)
  • Numbness
  • Cold
  • Misshapen
  • Cuts
  • Deformities

Those who are experiencing any of these symptoms, or suspect that they have a broken foot, should seek medical attention in a center where x-rays can be performed. This is especially urgent if any of the symptoms include numbness, blue coloring, cold feet, cuts, misshapen toes or deformities as these indicate more severe cases.
